Success Stories? Anyone? Bueller?

Last Friday I went to dinner with a couple of friends. I mentioned rescheduling my surgery to the friend who will be taking care of me. The other one had no idea and asked what was going on. I told her.

She immediately launched into a story about how her friend tore the labrum in a car accident, had to have surgery, it's been a year and she still can't do anything. As it turns out, it's torn again (or still?) and she has to have another surgery.

Are there any success stories out there at all? Has anyone ever gone in, had the tear repaired and any impingement corrected, three weeks on crutches, and 3 months later perfectly fine and running marathons? Or, realistically speaking, is anyone with a torn labrum doomed to struggle with pain and revisions forever?

I was told that 80% of people feel 80% better. And my doc said he's never experienced anyone feeling worse. But this seems to be a lie. According to everyone out there posting and people I happen to encounter, it seems that 100% of the people are worse. Considering I'm still fairly active, I feel it's stupid to go be butchered.

I'm so discouraged.
